Right now I am in Bombay, India (aka Mumbai), where it’s 90 degrees and wild dogs, cows, and rickshaws are competing against people and taxis for space on the streets outside our hotel. This is one of the stops on the Subatomic Sound System and Dubblestandart “Planet Dub Tour” that is slowly spreading deep bass and echoes around the earth.

Subatomic Sound Radio - Straight Outta Bombay, Part 1

Back in November I was out in Seattle (doing a gig at DJ Collage’s Jam Jam reggae party), and had the good fortune of being able to interview Indian music aficionado James Whetzel (appropriately dressed in a limited edition “Sitar Hero” tee) for a preview of some current sounds that I might hear on my upcoming tour in India.

When is the Ravi Shankar Edition dropping? James Whetzel of KEXP in Seattle.

The good people at KEXP in Seattle allowed me to do the recording in their radio studio and also had me as a guest on their Wo’Pop show along with UK dubstep sensation Joker, who dropped a nice DJ set. I finally had a chance to upload the show featuring Whetzel, so enjoy the interview and sounds.

Emch finally finds out what a real radio station looks like.

Today is my last day in Chembur, Bombay. I’ll be sitting down to interview the BBC (aka the Bay Beat Collective), key players in a quickly growing new drum and bass scene in India, which is resuscitating a lot of the late '90s Roni Size era vibes and mixing them up with some local flavor.

The Blue Frog Club in Bombay, India.

Stay tuned for that interview and some local Bombay drum and bass sounds on the next show. Next week, I’ll be teaming up with BBC for a gig in Goa at the International Sunburn Festival, going down on the beach just before New Year’s Eve.

After three DJ and live electronic gigs in Bombay with Subatomic Sound System and Dubblestandart, we are headed out tomorrow to Bangalore, Delhi, and back to Mumbai over the next few days.

A rickshaw in Bombay carries Subatomic Sound to their next gig.

Our singer and MC, Naada from Subatomic Sound System, who is now based in Los Angeles, will be flying in to rock the mic at these shows as well.  We’ll also be connecting with some local reggae and dancehall crews in Delhi. We're looking forward to hearing what kinds of Carib/Indian masala they are rocking up there.

Ez Brooklyn massive!  Catch a snowflake on your tongue for me!
