WEDNESDAY, JUNE 30
GIANT STEP PRESENTS...
PUMA SOCIAL NIGHT
w/ DJ DRM (BASTARD JAZZ) + ERIK THE RED (GIANT STEP)
Just in time for summer, long-standing Brooklyn label Bastard Jazz Recordings is proud to bring you a little slice of sunshine from New York City's DJ Center.
“Center's Groove”, a natural fit on Bastard Jazz, was taken from DJ Center's critically acclaimed debut album, Everything in Time LP, and was a standout favorite for the likes of the Huffingtonpost, Okayplayer.com, Bobbito, DJ Vadim and Nickodemus and received heavy rotation on KCRW in Los Angeles. The track itself is a beautiful midtempo piece of bossa-hop, complete soaring horns and easy tropical guitar vibes - perfect for getting those feet moving as the sun goes down over the BBQ grill. On the flip side, Bastard Jazz artist Captain Planet pulls “Center's Groove” towards the dancefloor even more with boomin' drums, samba whistles & cuicas, dirty synth bass, and funky Rhodes work that could have come straight from Bob James himself.
Tomorrow night, we return back to our favorite haunt--Williamsburg's Studio BPM, for a night of killer music and party vibes from two of our favorite bands currently upping dancefloors in the Borough of Brooklyn: Cumbiagra and Super HiFi. Plus! Brooklyn Radio's DJ DRM of Bastard Jazz and E's E of Trustus League on the decks before, after, and in-between band sets.
STUDIO BPM
237 KENT AVE (B/W GRAND AND N. 1st)
WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN
Doors @ 10PM.

This was a mix put together by the Captain and I one hot June afternoon for WPRI in Upstate NY. We made it to promote a gig we were doing up there over the weekend. It was conceived at a steady 13mph clip around the outer loop of Prospect Park, and executed that evening over Coronas and big boy Tiger Beers at the Captain's crib in Flatbush...hence the name of the mix.
Lots of sunshine music contained herein...as well as a couple of soon-to-be released tracks from Bastard Jazz and BSTRD Boots.
Brooklyn Radio's DJ DRM, he of the Bastard Jazz Radio show, joins Nickodemus and the Turntables On the Hudson crew tonight for some deep grooves at Water Taxi Beach in Long Island City. The weather will be in the '70s. Time to get outdoors. And dance.
Brooklyn's Bastard Jazz Recordings has just dropped a brand new 12" from the Bay Area's Mophono's Halftone Society. The Sinicism EP is a tough and dirty drum workout featuring big, nasty horns across the board. you'll hear traces of diverse influences like DJ Shadow, Flying Lotus, Fela Kuti, and classic Ninja Tune.
To celebrate the release, we here at Brooklyn Radio are happy to give away a FREE download courtesy of Bastard Jazz: You can grab Natural Self's buzzing (and crushing) dancefloor remix of "Sinicism" from us here. (Right click and "Save Target As...") Then make sure to check out Mophono's "Thug Jazz V. 1" guestmix on Bastard Jazz Radio.
The full vinyl EP and digital can be purchased from any fine physical or digital shop worldwide, or from the Bastard Jazz Shop.
The boys of Bastard Jazz Radio, DJ DRM and Sema4, are back in the lab mixing and mashing things up for another set of groovy goodies for your ears. This week's episode, Ill Labortatorio, features artists Massive Attack, Dam Funk, Jaga Jazzist, East of Underground, and plenty of other potions to get your feet moving.
DJ Eleven of The Rub and Paul Digs of Bastard Jazz join forces tonight for a Brooklyn Radio cage match that pits them against all of you drunk revelers and lovers of good grooves. Be warned. You will be defeated. But you'll be happy to lose yourself in the music tonight at Trophy Bar in Williamsburg for the monthly Wheel Up! party. Erik the Red of Giant Step joins these two for funky vibrations into the wee hours of the morning. And to keep you there, the $5 beer and shot combo will keep your wallet happy.
DJ DRM and Sema4 get deep into the scene--you know what we mean?--on this week's episode of Bastard Jazz Radio. Artists include Kelp, Coldcut, People Under the Stairs, Malente, Sneaky Fox, and other fun loving groovesters.
It has indeed been too long - but our long running (3+ years now) night Dubwise Sessions, devoted to all things reggae & dub finally returns to that intimate off-the-beaten path Williamsburg speakeasy with the monster sound that is Studio BPM for another night of uncompromising, classic sounds.
Joining us live and on-stage will be the one Ossie Dellimore and his band, a 20+ year Brooklyn transplant from St. Vincent whose powerful and militant approach to Roots music has garnered him worldwide attention through only a sparse musical output that includes just one album (self released and then re-issue in 2004 by a larger label) and an appearance on the Easy Star v. 1 compilation.
Selectors Queen Majesty and DRM provide the sounds all night long, with special guests on the mic.
BPM is located at 237 Kent Ave, between Grand and n. 1st in Williamsburg. Doors are at 10PM and suggested donation is $10.
...And check out the Dubwise Sessions Myspace Page for past flyers, and lots of youtube video clips from past performers inc. Sammy Dread, Milton Henry, Ticklah, Victor Rice and mucho mas!
Bastard Jazz's DJ DRM and Sema4 head up, up, up for the 10th edition of Bastard Jazz Radio. Spaced out floor fillers from the likes of Nosaj Thing, DJ Vadim, Lushlife, Quantic and his Combo Barbaro, Todd Terje, Karizma, Ignition and more. All systems go.
Bastard Jazz Radio DJ's DRM and Sema4 swim a little too far out past the bouys in the tumoultous ocean that is Brooklynradio.net to bring you another epsiode full of hand-picked good things from our musical tidepools. Forgotten modern sounds from the likes of Blockhead, Sebastian Tellier, the Youngblood Brass Band and Charles B meet brand new gems from The Phenomenal Handclap Band, James Pants, Floating Points, El Michels Affair, The Magic Fly and much more. 12 songs to sail away.
Bastard Jazz selectors Sema4 and DJ DRM ride sidesaddle into Brooklyn Radio with a galloping grouping of gripping jams for all y'all. Lovely music from the likes of Saru, Kendra Lou and The Miracles, The Whitest Boy Alive, Aldo Vannucci, Da Wiesel, and Fourfifths and much more.
The Bastard Jazz boys are back with another bass quaking, booty shaking, baby making, and homestyle baking selections! Brand new tracks from Disrupt, Aether, Prefuse 73, 12th Planet and Hint alongside some golden oldies and slept on bangers.
Bastard Jazz Radio returns with show #6 - "Tell Me That I'm Dreaming" - a nocturnal romp through some heavy vibes and a few scattered rays of sunlight - featuring tracks from Almagretta, Sharon Jones, 9th Wonder, Was (Not Was), Up Hygh, Ocote Soul Sounds, Flying Lotus and more.
The Bastard Jazz Crew are back to some wildly fluctuating business with their fifth Brooklynradio show, "Herky Jerky". Tracks from Dim Dim, Chopteeth Afrofunk, Weldon Irvine, Jean Jaques Perry, Munk and Runaway keep those limbs moving in the same directions at odd intervals.
DJ DRM and his crew throw down more ear pleasing grooves and pieces on a new episode of Bastard Jazz Radio, playing joints from Morgan Geist, Kyoto Jazz Massive, Quantic, Kelis, and more.
Bastard Jazz Records, the creators of Bastard Jazz Radio, team up with digital dub scientists Jhatari Records out of Germany for a reworking of this 2006 bumper, "International Calling" from Normma. Running deep on synthesized electro bass, stuttering techno bleeps, and switching tempos, these two producer brothers fron Northern Spain--Eduardo and Raúl Acosta--create the in sound from way out. On the flip, "Give Thanks To Be A Part" works a more mellow vibe, spreading around your headspace with pinging echoes and reverbed guitar chords. Exclusively available on 7" wax.
Normma - "International Calling" - Bastard Jazz Records, Jhatari Records 2008
Brooklyn's Bastard Jazz Recordings is back with plenty of heat on their second episode. It's an across-the board musical stew that finds Flying Lotus, Out Hud, Maurice Fulton, BJ Cole, Sinden, David Axelrod, and Ray Baretto's flavor seeping in (among others). Big tunes for early afternoons.
We didn't think you needed another "Best Records of the Year" according to us list. Instead, we asked our DJs, writers, friends, and a few homicidal maniacs the same questions about 2008 to see how they would respond. Next up, slipping on the nocturnal vibes of 2008, is DJ DRM on Bastard Jazz Radio.
