This week on The Bridge, DJ Rick McClatchie brings the heat after burning the candle on both ends at Electric Zoo this past weekend. He's up in the shit, mixing classic techno and new house rockers. Also! The man behind the mixing has a new EP out, Rhythm Technician on BDivision Records, with production partner Martone, who team up to form After Disco. Pick it up on Juno Download.
We continue showcasing different DJs playing this weekend at Electric Zoo on Randall's Island, which Brooklyn Radio is a proud sponsor, on Select Sessions with the Netherland's Joris Voorn. It's another ace set of house and techno bangers to get you ready for the big festival this weekend.
DJ U-Tern is back from touring this summer and dives straight back into the podcast game with a new episode of One Day Later here on Brooklyn Radio. Artists in the mix include Dennis brown, Voltage, Mark Ronson, Defender, Jimmy Edgar, Lifelike, and lots more. Download your bliss.
For those of you who followed Lost for 6 seasons, you may know they released the full season DVD last week, including the emotional, FINALE. Well, we at the The Shake Up also have reached a finale, the finale of AWESOME MUSIC WEEK. Of course we turned one week into 21 days [ed. note: In true DJ Chucky Brown fashion: A week in 21 days, folks. 21 days!], but we made it: classic house, funk-soul-disco, '80s part a, an intermission with dj dukes, '80s part b, and last but not least an all new ROCK awesome music show (with a couple of old tracks sneaking in). Enjoy, and let Dan Martino know how much you can't wait till the next "Awesome Music Week." [ed. note: We'll name it properly: "Awesome Music Month."
This weekend we're sponsoring the Electric Zoo Festival at Randall's Island. To get you more in the know, we're presenting a fresh mix each day on Select Sessions from a different performer on the bill. Up today is housey trance kraut jock Markus Shulz.
Well this is what we like to see: The Brooklyn Radio family scoring hits together! The Midnight Lab Band, a project by the Trustus League's Oneman and E's E, have a chart topper over at Juno with DJ DRM of Bastard Jazz, who did a rework of their track "Twilight Reprise." (No vampires to be heard here.) Make sure to pick up the white label wax or download the mp3 goodness at Turntable Lab.
This week on Select Sessions, we'll be bringing you different DJs performing at Electric Zoo over the weekend at Randall's Island. Today, we give you German producer and DJ Steve Bug. Did you know he worked as a hairdresser before taking to the turntables? You can read an interview with him today in Resident Advisor. This set was recorded live at the Treibstoff Klub in Cologne, Germany.
Electronic group Underworld is back with more ambient pop with this track "Always Loved A Film," from their upcoming LP Barker. The album drops September 13th in the U.K. on Cooking Vinyl Records. The video above features an aging pack of skate rats reliving their youth by popping kick flips, stealing liquor, and riding around with the top down.
Today's Fresh Cut comes to us from DJ Ayres of The Rub, who is detonatoning dancefloors in Canada with his other half, Cosmo Baker. We got this telecominique via Blackberry that the L.A. producer's Them Jeans remix of Kid Cudi's "Pursuit of Happiness" is causing earth shifting tectonics with the Canucks. It will probably work wonders for your playlist as well. Impress your friends!
Gotta love Google: I typed "Boogie" in the images search and like that, I get a great image. My man Josh Dukes, aka DJ Dukes, took time out of his busy schedule and help put together an "awesome" music week mix of all Boogie. The Shake Up continues its music expansion, so if you are wanting the indie, electro, and rock, that will be later in the week. For now, get ready to blow some bubbles and roller skate.
Alex and Leo of Greenmoney are back right quick with a new episode this week, featuring the best in underground dance and electronic music from the U.K. and the world. Artists include jimpster, Redlight, Ms. Dynamite, Seiji, DJ Cleo, Soultonic, and lots more.
We remember when people were telling us that minimal techno--whatever that was supposed to mean!--was all the rage amongst the electronic music heads. Well, this guy, Tristan Perich, has taken it to its inevitable conclusion. He's created a 1 bit symphony inside a CD case that you plug in. And here everyone was saying the LP was dead. Wrong! It reminds us of those Little Buddha machines. Interesting idea. [Boing Boing]
Glasser operates under a slick formula that makes her music so interesting and compelling. She places a large emphasis on the percussion for each song while also allowing for her strongest aspect – her ethereal and smooth voice – to shine. There are touches of Kate Bush and contemporaries such as Bat for Lashes, but “Home” sounds like the first step on defining her aesthetic, and it’s one that I am a fan of.
Glasser's full length LP, Ring, is out September 28th on True Panther Records.
This week on Greenmoney, DJs Alex and Leo do some proper head bashing on your skull with sonic force. Along with their usual mix of new and classic tracks from the electronic underground, they have R1 Ryders in the mix.
Next week, the UK's Count and Sinden will release their first LP, Mega, Mega, Mega, after their club night of the same name. Featuring a slew of guests, including addictive indie popsters Mystery Jets, they take in a wide spectrum of electronic dance genres, including UK funky, dubstep, house, and grime. You can stream the whole wonderful mess below. Make sure to pick up the album, which drops August 23rd on Domino Records. [Fact Magazine]
This week, on your favorite underground house show in all the universe, DJ Rick McClatchie welcomes Sweden's Marcus Stork to The Bridge. Marcus has been releasing a lot of interesting techno magic for labels in his homeland and noted progressive imprint Afterglow Records.
Critical darlings Cut Copy played the Jelly NYC Pool Party this past Sunday in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. They debuted a new track and kept themselves and the crowd dancing, despite the scorching heat. [Stereogum]
The Shake Up continues the series of "AWESOME" music week. Today we explore funk, disco and the forgotten genre of hip-house; with tracks that I feel YOU MUST HEAR. It won't necessarily be music you've never heard; to the contrary, it will be music that you should have heard. And if you didn't then now you will have all this "awesome" music in one place. If i'm lucky some of these tracks will make Cosmo Baker's "forgotten classics" playlist??? For those yearning for a dose of indie rock, electro, and alternative, you will be rewarded at the end of the week. Enjoy.
The Greenmoney crew Alex and Leo are out like thieves in the night in this week's episode. Get ready for some slam-a-lam-a-ding-dong to your skull of bass popping heat from artists like Calibre, Breach, Goepele, Bowly, and orginal productions from Greenmoney. Steal this episode below.
